Reader Level: Reader Level

Primary Category: FlashThe Drawing API (Application Programming Interface) was first introduced in Flash MX. Simply put, the Drawing API gives you the ability to create lines and shapes using ActionScript. Drawing shapes programmatically is beneficial in any application that is built dynamically and programmatically, such as games and whiteboard applications. Further, dynamic masking using programmatically-drawn shapes as the masks can create unique and dynamic masking effects.

Part 1 in this series of tutorials on the Drawing API will cover the creation of lines and basic shapes and fills. Content that will be covered in further tutorials is mentioned at the end of the article.
