CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 29: More Summer Scenes
Before the fall is upon us, let's enjoy a little more summer. Here is the second set of CMX summer stock photos. This collection includes ten high resolution images that you can use in any of your projects.
CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 28: Summer
Summertime and the living's easy. Fish are jumpin' and the cotton is high....
The 28th CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection includes ten high resolution images of the scenes of summer.
Smart Objects for Photographers: Part 1
Smart Objects are a special kind of Layer in Photoshop that contains image data from either pixel-based images (Photoshop files) or vector-based images (Illustrator files). Smart Objects add another level of editing flexibility in a non-destructive manner similar to, but not totally identical to, the way Adjustment Layers and Layer Styles allow you to go back and make changes after the fact.
CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 27: Wallpaper
After taking a beautiful photograph, I want to look at it as often as possible. One way to do that is to use it as wallpaper on either my computer, iPad, or iPhone. You have to be careful about what kinds of photographs you use for wallpaper, though. They can't be too busy or distracting, and they certainly can't obscure the icons and folders onscreen! This collection of ten high resolution CMX Masterpiece Photos is devoted to images that will look great on any screen.
CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 26: Winter Scenes
Hard as it is to believe, there are only a few weeks left of winter in the Northern Hemisphere. Before it's all over, and flowers start blooming, we'll give winter its last gasp by providing a CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection of winter scenes. This collection includes ten high resolution images of snowy images from Aspen, Lake Tahoe, and Alaska.
CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 24: Autumn Leaves
This is my favorite time of year to take road trips. My most recent trip was to North Carolina to see the autumn foliage, with the purpose of capturing the scenery with my trusty camera. I think you'll agree that Mother Nature produces some of her most glorious colors in the fall!
This collection includes ten high resolution images that you can process for web or for print.
Exporting Image Portfolios from Adobe Bridge to the iPad
Tablet devices are becoming more and more common in the professional, educational and consumer worlds. In fact, at MAX 2011 it was even mentioned that tablet devices will likely supersede desktop computers within the next few years. With increasingly powerful tablets coming into the market, tied in with cloud-based services, this forecast doesn't surprise me.
The fact that Adobe announced at MAX 2011, the release of 6 new and or improved Touch apps, also sends a clear message that these devices are being taken seriously by the industry.
Whether you are a professional artist or photographer, or a student learning the craft, or just someone who wants to share their great photos with others on your shiny new tablet, this article may come in handy. We're going to see how you can add image portfolios to your iPad, using Adobe Bridge CS5, the new Bridge Export panel, and iTunes.
CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 23: New York City 2
We're back with Part Two of the New York City CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection. Times Square, Manhattan, the US Open, taxies, cathedrals, window dressing, and more will give you inspiration for your next project. This collection includes thirteen high resolution images that you can process for print or web.
CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 22: New York City
Hard as it is to believe, the tenth anniversary of the September 11 attacks is upon us. To pay tribute to that tragic event in American history, we are releasing two collections of photographs of New York City. In this first of the two, we offer twelve high resolution images of Rockefeller Center, Times Square, and Manhattan that you can use in your web or print projects.
CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 21: Lighthouses
Throughout the years, lighthouses have been the subject of song, poetry, art and photography. I am a big lighthouse fan and while traveling, will never pass up an opportunity to take a side trip to one of these romantic structures by the sea.
This collection is based on the masterpiece poem The Lighthouse by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
The collection includes 11 high resolution images that you can use in your print or web work.
Use Adobe Bridge CS5 for Posting Photos to Facebook, Flickr and Photoshop.com
Once again, Adobe Bridge slips a little known feature into the application which saves me time! As of version 4.0.2, Adobe Bridge CS5 includes Export modules for directly posting photos to Facebook, Flickr and Photoshop.com. The Export modules will even handle a number of formatting and metadata transformations from configurable presets. Compared to my old workflow of creating images then uploading them in separate steps, this feature has saved me significant time and hard drive space. This article will give you a brief overview of the upload process.
Importing your Blackberry Playbook Photos into Bridge or Lightroom
Just because I own an iPhone and a MacBook, doesn't mean that I can't make great use of the Playbook.
Once you start using the pretty decent 5 MP camera for snapshots, wirelessly accessing those photos from your Playbook is a snap.
Wirelessly connecting your PlayBook means you don't have to worry about cables. And it frees you to transfer files - any files - back and forth between your laptop and tablet.
In a few simple steps you'll see how you can access your PB photos from within the Mac Finder, Adobe Bridge or Lightroom. So, wake up your PlayBook, and let's get started!
CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 20: Dance of the Comedians
Nature photography is by far my favorite type of photography. Whether you're an animal lover or not, you can't help but see how entertaining and comical these unpretentious, uninhibited animals can be. Some of the following animal pranksters were shot in the wild, some at the Palm Beach Zoo, and others while I was just out for a stroll around town.
This collection includes ten high resolution images that can be used in everything from print pieces to web pages.
CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 19: Christmas Edition
Well, the holidays are indeed upon us. This is my favorite time of the year. I am in very good shape holiday shopping-wise, so blessed with some free time, I decided to open up a few images and play around with some of the filters offered in Photoshop.
So come on in and enjoy some festive filters to kick off the holiday season. This collection includes ten images in the range of 800 by 600 ppi.
CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 18: Hawaii
This is far from a literary masterpiece theme in this collection. I'm taking huge liberties and moving instead to the vast wasteland of TV: Hawaii 5-0. Yes, as you know, our 50th state once again has a TV series. The show itself is your typical formula cop format. The good guy always gets the bad guy in the end. But the scenery almost makes it worth watching. I was in Maui in the summer, though not during the season of the dramatic surfing waves, so I can't treat you to those classics shot. But the island is one of the most ruggedly gorgeous terrains I have yet to encounter.
This set includes ten high resolution images.

Story Telling with VuVox
I was recently introduced to a very cool online service called VUVOX. This free, online service makes it easy for you to create and share interactive presentations which include photos, video and music. And it's fun! Students, teachers, artists, photojournalists, photographers can share their work and thoughts in an interactive, scrolling collage that can be built in minutes.
RGB vs. CMY(K)
If you're just starting out in photography or even if you've been at it for a while, you need to have some understanding of RGB and CMY(K) models of color if you want to perhaps some day have your work published or your photos turned into gallery displays. This article will give you some basic insight as to where these color models originate, where they’re used and their differences.
JPEG to Adobe Camera Raw
I've often been asked about the differences between Adobe Camera Raw files and JPEG files and if in fact a JPEG can be processed in Camera Raw. Let me say first off, all digital cameras do not create Raw files and the majority of digital cameras, such as the compact point and shoot types, will most likely be producing JPEG's. Some more expensive DSLR cameras will produce both JPEG and Raw files.
CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 16: Moby Dick
Summer in South Florida is pretty sticky, especially if you venture two steps away from the A/C into the great outdoors. Many people choose to take their summer vacation in a tropical climate with warm waters and white, sandy beaches. They come here. Since I live in this tropical climate year round, I did what the snowbirds do. I headed north, as north as you can get in the good old USA. My destination for 10 glorious days was the coast of Maine. Sweater weather and Maine lobster in mid June is my idea of perfection.
This collection of ten high resolution images was taken during my recent trip to Maine.

CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 15: The Three Musketeers
Groups of three seem to be a natural phenomenon - they're everywhere! In this latest collection of CMX Masterpiece Photos, every image is composed of a grouping of three, including such subjects as flowers, birds, ornaments, bottles, and wild horses. The collection includes ten high resolution images that you can process for your print or web work.
(This collection is based on the classic book, The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas.)
Introducing CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 15: The Three Musketeers
We are excited to introduce the CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 15: The Three Musketeers, based on the book by Alexandre Dumas (1805-1870). You can read The Three Musketeers at the Gutenburg Project.
You may not remember the names of Athos, Porthos, and Aramis, the inseparable friends in The Three Musketeers, but you surely have heard of the motto they live by: "all for one, one for all".
There is something compelling about groups of threes. The concept of three seems to be in our blood, in our religions, and even in our design principles. The ratio of thirds is a hot topic in web design, especially as divided in a 960 pixel wide layout. In the spirit of the trend, we are pleased to offer you images based on groupings of three.
Introducing CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 14: The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
We are excited to introduce the CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 14: The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, based on the book by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859 - 1930).
Everyone knows that back in the good old days a detective carried a magnifying glass. A good photographer carries lenses to capture stunning close-up shots - as though through a magnifying glass.
CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 13: Gone with the Wind
Over the holiday season, we took a trip through the South. Ever ready with my camera, I captured images in such famous cities as Atlanta, Georgia and Charleston, South Carolina.
This collection of stock photos includes ten high resolution images that you can use in your web or print work.

Some Tips on Digital Photo Frames
Digital photo frames have been on the market for some time now, but only recently have they become affordable - especially the larger format versions. By larger format, I mean larger than a 5x7 inch screen.
Having just purchased a 15 inch digital frame, I thought I would share some tips with you about this rather nifty device.
CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 12: To Autumn

Observations From an Equestrian Photo Shoot
Are you looking to expand your photographic horizons? And I don't mean with a 12mm fisheye lens... I mean taking on new challenges. I was recently invited to take pictures at an outdoor equestrian event, which I had never previously done.
I grabbed my camera, took a few moments to think about what I'd need, then proceeded to spend the day learning how little I knew about event photography. I was up at 4am to be on the trail and set up. Read my experience doing something for the first time, and perhaps you'll come out ahead when next you tackle a new challenge!

It's already August, and before you know it, summer will be behind us, the kids will go back to school, and the momentum towards the big holidays will begin. Let's enjoy our lazy summer days a little while longer. Let's go out to the field and chase the butterflies.

CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 8: Call of the Wild
Summer has arrived, and it gets unbearably hot here in southern Florida. If you too are sweating in the middle of a heat wave, take a moment to cool off by viewing some images that capture the wild beauty of Alaska.
This collection includes ten high resolution images that were photographed in Alaska.
Introducing Masterpiece Photo Collection 8: Call of the Wild
We are excited to introduce the CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 8: The Call of the Wild, based on the book by Jack London (1876-1916). You can read Call of the Wild in a free ebook at Project Gutenberg.

Infra Red and Adobe Camera Raw Are Great Friends
I'm sure most of you who have been with photography for awhile, still remember the painstaking process of creating an Infra Red (IR) image from scratch. Along with the issues of focusing an IR image, you had to be concerned with ambient temperatures and film processing techniques to end up with what would, if everything went right the first time, a spectacular scene consisting of a stark sky with puffy white clouds and the general landscape of trees and grass taking on a surreal cotton candy fairyland appearance. The entire scene was rendered in bold tones of black and white. Those were the days, tedious at times, but eventually it was all worthwhile.
Well today you can still achieve all the splender of an IR image effect with a lot less effort and a lot more control. Photoshop and Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) combine together to give remarkably brilliant IR effects from any color image you might have kicking around. It's quick and easy.
Introducing Masterpiece Photo Collection 7: Paradise Lost
We are excited to introduce the CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 7: Paradise Lost, based on the epic poem by John Milton (1608-1674).
Now you may be wondering what possible connection there could be between Paradise Lost and our latest CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection. After all, the poem deals with the profound themes of man's fall and the dichotomy of good and evil. We are engaging in a little irony here. Our latest images are of paradises on earth, and thus give us a few moments where we feel...Paradise Gained.
CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 7: Paradise Lost
Times are undeniably tough, and many of us feel like we're living in our own "Paradise Lost". This photo collection is an attempt to provide a little bit of escape as it takes us away to tropical island settings and clear, blue sunny skies - paradise gained, so to speak!
This collection includes ten images of islands and beaches at various locations. Each image is high resolution and can be used in a variety of media.

The Rules of Composition
So you take pictures. Do you know what you're looking at? How would you describe what you do and don't like? Even more important, how can you take that information and make *better* pictures?
Start here! I'll take you on a tour of how I view composition and rules in photography, and why you need to reconsider what rules really are.
Introducing Masterpiece Photo Collection 6: The Jungle Book
We are excited to introduce the CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 6: The Jungle Book, based on the book by Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936). You can read The Jungle Book in a free ebook at Project Gutenberg.
Many of you may have read The Jungle Book, or at the very least seen the Disney movie. I remember going to see the movie as a child and being completely fascinated by it. I would even guess that it is my all time favorite Disney movie!
CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 6: The Jungle Book
We are excited to introduce the CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 6: The Jungle Book, based on the book by Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936).
I've always had pets of all kinds - cats, dogs, guinea pigs, birds, and even a snake. I think most of us are fascinated by animals, both wild and tame. I took the following ten photographs of creatures great and small at safaris, zoos, cruises, "in the wild", and finally, at my home.

CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 5: Around the World in 80 Days
As the weather gets warmer, many of us start to think about summer vacation. One of the most enjoyable parts of any trip can be how to get from point A to point B. This fifth collection of stock photos is about transportation, some of it slow and some of it fast.

Introducing Masterpiece Photo Collection 4: A Winter's Tale
After the fragrant collection of flowers in our last stock photo collection, it seems a bit retrograde to publish images of winter. This is the season of ricocheting weather, however. Here in the D.C. metropolitan area - after experiencing sunny 60+ degree weather the last couple of days - we're under a winter storm warning with the possibility of sleet, ice pellets, and up to a foot of snow in some locations.
And then there are the places that will get snow for many weeks yet to come. CMX Partner Rob Williams lives in Canada near Toronto and loves to go out after a fresh storm and take images before humans and vehicles tarnish the virgin landscape.
CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 4 - A Winter's Tale
This week's stock photo collection takes a bit of a change of pace by focusing on natural winter landscapes. While staying nice and cozy at home in the depths of a snow storm can be comforting, it's amazing how many beautiful scenes and experiences you can miss out on. This selection of photos that I've taken over the last two winters will, I hope, help to bridge that gap (without the need for you to get out in the bitter winter air!)
To read more about the classic literature, A Winter's Tale by William Shakespeare that provides the theme for this collection, read Sheri German's Introducing CMX Masterpiece Photos Collection 4: A Winter's Tale

Introducing CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 3: A Rose
We are excited to introduce the CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 3: A Rose, based on a poem by Emily Dickinson (1830 - 1886) called A Rose - A sepal, petal, and a thorn.
It is now mid February and we're all pretty sick of the snow, ice, and cold weather. As sometimes happens in February, we just had a run of extraordinarily mild days with one day climbing to almost 70 degrees here in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. That whets my appetite for the season of the renewal of life.
Spring is coming...and so are the flowers.
Introducing Masterpiece Photo Collection 2: The Birds
We are excited to introduce the CMX Masterpiece Photo Collection 2: The Birds, themed on a play called, well, The Birds written in 414 BC (yeah, you read that right) by Aristophanes.
Beware: the birds are coming....ten of them in full plumage and full of glorious song.
Introducing the CMX Stock Photo Feature: Masterpiece Photos
It is that "most wonderful time of year", and CMX loves to offer gifts to its subscribers, as well as the web development community at large. While exchanging ideas, we decided it was time to add a much needed feature to Community MX's growing repertoire of subscriber services. We had been wanting to offer stock photos for quite some time, but were waiting for just the right photographer. We found her in Jillian Kossin, a photographer who travels all over the world to get her masterpiece images. It is with great pride that we introduce CMX Masterpiece Photos Collection 1: Two Years Before the Mast, a group of ten images based on boats, trawlers, sailboats, and ships.
