Page 1 of 4 The Greek island of Santorini is considered by some to be the location of the legendary Atlantis. Atlantis still fascinates and inspires everything from literature and art to movies and music. Now, as the latest Community MX JumpStart, we hope that Santorini will inspire your Web designs, too. To give extra motivation, we're even going to run a JumpStart contest....
Santorini is our 18th JumpStart, and we think that this is a nice "coming of age" number. To celebrate, we're going to offer Santorini for free, as well as hold a JumpStart contest. If you have created a site from any of our 18 JumpStarts, you can submit its URL to JScontest@communitymx.com. A panel of CMX partners will judge the entries by the following criteria:
This rubric should give you a good idea of what the judges will be looking for:
| Community MX JumpStart Contest | Points | |||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Criteria | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 |
| 1. Adaptation of the Design "adaptation" - alteration, conversion, modification, remodeling, reworking, transformation, variation |
nice adaptation | very good adaptation | excellent adaptation | practically a miraculous adaptation of the original design |
| 2. Suitability of Design to the Site Content "suitable" - appropriate, acceptable, applicable, apt, befitting, copacetic, pertinent |
not suitable |
somewhat suitable | mostly suitable | eminently suitable to the content |
| 3. Validity of all CSS/XHTML code validity will be judged using the HiSoftware® Cynthia Says™ - Web Content Accessibility Report available directly from the W3C site or with the Firefox Developer Toolbar (Tools menu > Validate CSS, Tools > Validate HTML) |
lots of errors | several errors |
just a few errors | 100% A-OK valid CSS and XHTML code |
| 4. Accessibility accessibility will be judged using the HiSoftware® Cynthia Says™ - Web Content Accessibility Report available directly from the Hi Software site or with the Firefox Developer Toolbar (Tools menu > Validate WAI, Tools > Validate Section 508) |
lots of errors | several errors |
just a few errors | 100% A-OK and accessible |
For example, if Santorini was being judged by our brilliant panel of CMX experts, it would receive 4's in each category, of course! The total point count is computed by summing the points awarded for each criteria multiplied by that criteria's weighting factor.
| Criteria | Points | Weighting Factor | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Adaptation of the Design | 4 | 60 % | 2.4 |
| 2. Suitability of Design to the Site Content | 4 | 20 % | 0.8 |
| 3. Validity of all CSS/XHTML code | 4 | 10 % | 0.4 |
| 4. Accessibility | 4 | 10 % | 0.4 |
| Total Score: | 4 | ||
The deadline for entries is Nov. 3, 2006, and the winner will be announced on Nov. 9, 2006. The prize will be a 12 month subscription to Community MX and exposure for the design on our front page. A runner up will get site exposure on the CMX front page.
****The decisions made by the judges are final.****
